Committee Reports
- Nominating: Barbara introduced Anne Tracey as new member-at-large.
- Interest Groups: Suzanne announced two new groups: Express Yourself and Banned Book Group. We now have two groups meeting at the same time and day, which we had previously intentionally avoided. We agreed to allow that to continue for 2022-23 but that it should be avoided in the future if at all possible.
- Newsletter/Website: Winnie reported she has updated the website with the two new interest groups and asked the board to please take a look at the changes. Also, she asked if anyone has any ideas about the old pictures in the Gallery as there are many. The board was agreeable to removing old ones and keeping only recent ones in view. Winnie stated that she and Ann will work on the next newsletter in October to be distributed early November.
- Directory: Karen Johnson contacted 48 people who had not renewed, and 36 then did renew their memberships. There are 20 new members and 19 have lapsed for a total of 171 members including two honorary members. The directory will be published shortly.
- Scholarship: No report.
- Publicity: Mary Joy Burkle will submit an article about the holiday party and holiday family gifts after Thanksgiving. The article will also include information about our scholarship winners.
- Communications: No report.
Old Business
Fall brunch in review:
- Brunch went well and was enjoyed by all.
- Food was very good.
- We need at least an hour to set up silent auction and raffle. If we cannot get into the facility earlier, we should consider delaying the start of the event.
- Consider using balloons where raffle tickets are being sold, adding a seller, and stationing one seller at the sign-in table.
- Introduce our guests.
- Consider using something like a loud bell to announce the start of food service.
- Keep serving area curtain closed except when serving.
- Need to provide a lunch slip to only those ordering a vegan meal.
New Business
- Holiday party will be on Friday December 9th at 6:30 at the Sanchez’s. Joe Baker will provide the music along with entertainment by the TOOTS. Drinks will be BYOB. Food will be hearty pot luck hors d’oeuvres. Three board members will provide the desserts: Suzanne Fahrer, Denise Robins, Susan Winters.
- Anne Bullerjahn will collect money for the holiday families and arrange for shopping and delivery. Donation checks should be made out to Anne to be collected at the holiday party or mailed to her.
- 2023 special event ideas: Black Swamp Players evening, Arlyn’s Good Beer event, Purple Rose Theatre event, etc. Further discussion at our next meeting.
Next Board Meeting: The next board meeting will be at Ann’s house on a date in March, 2023 to be announced.
Move to adjourn by Barbara, seconded by Becky. Adjourned at 7:45.
