Minutes of Board Meeting October 2, 2023
Called to order at 7:00 PM.
Members Present: Anne Bullerjahn, Mary Joy Burkle, Suzanne Fahrer, Hilde Farrow, Lee Field-Starks, Stefani Hathaway, Karen Johnson, Connie Kern, Jan Knape, Becky McOmber, Debbie Newlove, Mary Lynn Pozniak, Barbara Sanchez, Denise Robins, Susan Winters
Members Absent: Ann Otley, Anne Tracy, Winnie Rex
Minutes of the July 24 meeting were distributed by e-mail in advance of the meeting. Motion by Karen Johnson to approve the minutes was seconded by Debbie Newlove. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report
- Checking account balance: $11,762.21
The treasurer’s report was received subject to audit.
Committee Reports
- Nominating: No report.
- Interest Groups: Suzanne reported that the Mystery Book Group and Genealogy Group are no longer meeting. A new group, Inspired Imagination, has begun to meet.
- Newsletter/Website: Debbie and Susan reported on their trip with Winnie to the BGSU Archives to see what is there and to gather information for our Centennial.
- Directory: The directory is out, and Karen will publish an addendum with new members in about a month. There are 170 members as of October 2nd. Motion by Suzanne to remove “Mrs.” and use only first and last names for past presidents in the directory from 1984 forward. Second by Lee. Motion passed.
- Scholarship: Mary Lynn reported that she received thank yous from the recipients, and one recipient, Jennifer May Cothern, gave us a copy of a book she has written, Fireweed Retreat. The book will be archived in the president’s box.
- Publicity: No report.
- Communications: No report.
Old Business
- Becky thanked everyone for their work on the Fall Brunch. The raffle and auction together brought in $2,135 (raffle: $670; auction: $1,465), and our members donated $4,778 direct to the foundation.
New Business
- Holiday Party will be held on Friday December 8th at 6:30 at the Sanchez’s. Music will be provided by Michael Peslikis. All attendees will bring an appetizer to share, and desserts will be provided by Suzanne, Susan, and Mary Joy.
- Anne Bullerjahn will work with the Salvation Army to identify five large families for us to support at the holidays. We will collect money at the Holiday Party or checks can go direct to Anne. The Community Service Committee will do the purchasing and distribution.
- We discussed 2024 program ideas. Lee (2024-25 president) has received ideas about recognizing our Centennial. Motion by Hilde to hold the 2024 brunch at the Veterans Building. Second by Denise. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 7:58.
The next board meeting will be at Becky’s house on a January date to be announced.
