Old Business (NOTE: New Business was moved ahead of Old Business as one member needed to depart early.)
- Lee reported that the BGSU president’s office called her to offer to host the Fall brunch at the President’s House if we could move the event to August 17th from 10 AM - noon. Motion to change the date by Lee; second by Anne. Motion passed. There will be audio, but no visual, support. We discussed how much of a donation to the scholarship fund we would ask in lieu of collecting for the lunch. We also discussed how best to recognize the 100th anniversary of the group. Winnie (chair), Susan, Becky, and Debbie will continue to search for materials related to the beginnings of UW. We will mail special invitations to the membership. Guests will be restricted to persons who are planning to join UW. NOTE: On January 26, Lee asked us to not share this information until arrangements are final.
- The group researching the history of UW reported that the BGSU archives contain no information on the founding of the organization. They will expand their search to other sources such as the Wood County District Public Library.
- Year End Review:
o Approximately 80 people attended the holiday party, which the Sanchezs have been hosting since 2002.
o Anne reported for the Community Service activity group that we collected almost $2,000 for five families, including 17 children. Each child received gifts worth approximately $70, and each family received $150 for groceries. She requested that in 2024, we subsidize the activity if necessary to insure we have $100 per child.
New Business
- We discussed a proposal by Anne to sponsor a presentation on redistricting. Since UW is completely apolitical, we decided to ask Denise to publicize an already-scheduled event at Grounds for Thought.
- Proposal to hold our end-of-UW-year event at Arlyn’s Good Beer on May 18th. Motion by Suzanne; second by Barbara. Motion passed. Since the meeting, Becky determined that in 2023 the event ran from 6:30 until 10:00, and since that time worked in 2023 we will do it again this year.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10.
The next board meeting will be at a place and date to be announced.
