The Banned Books Group was started in 2022 by Sandy Wicks and Barbara Ruland. The group meets on the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at Grounds for Thought. In 2024, the group amended its charter to include books by or about women. Our current plan is to read 6 banned books and 2 woman-focused books in the 2026 season. Over time we have read diverse books ranging from literary classics to YA fiction, children’s literature, autobiography and investigative reporting.
Barbara Kingsolver’s debut novel, The Bean Trees, is slated for the first session in September 2026.
The rest of the year’s books will be selected at that meeting.
