Wednesday AM TMA Group Schedule September 27: "The Berlin Painter and His World" October 25: "Fired Up!" November 29: "Glorious Splendor" January 24: "Behind the Scenes in the Conservation Department": A Visit with Suzanne Hargrove February 28: "Stages of Life" March 28: "The Mummies: From Egypt to Toledo" April 25: "New to the Collection" May 23: "Architecture of TMA" Here is information from Lynne about the books she mentioned and the changes in our tour topics:
"The two books I mentioned at the beginning of the tour are:
"Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea; Why the Greeks Matter by Thomas Cahill. This is volume 4 in a non-fiction series about world history called the Hinges of History. Other subjects in the series include histories of the Irish people, the Jewish people, early Christians, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. He is working on a last volume in the series about the making of the modern world. "Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. This is a fictional account of the relationship between the Greek hero Achilles and his best friend Patroclus, and their adventures during the Trojan War. The book does posit a same sex relationship between the two main characters, and historians are in disagreement about whether their close friendship actually included a physical aspect or was strictly platonic. However, I did not find the book offensive or overly graphic.
